So, let’s start with:
Bean Bag Single Bed Options
If you are just catering for one and have limited space there are a couple of options right off the bat.
The single Day bed:
The flip chair:
Both of these designs are around the same length. The flip chair has the option to ‘fold’ in half which means that if you need to keep it out of the way, it makes it a lot easier.
There is also another bean bag lounger. I this share this later in the post, (not technically a bed) but works just as well.
Bean Bag Double Bed Options
If you have the room to spare and are looking for a true bean bag bed you can’t go past these three options:
The Double day bed:

The Bean 2 Bed bean bag:
The double day bed we craft is made with a centre piece of fabric. The reason for this is that it houses two separate compartments in the bean bag itself.
If one person is resting on the left for example, the person on the right won’t be shifted up or down because of the bean filling.
Which means if you are resting with a second person their movements won’t affect you in the least.
The Corduroy’s and Bean 2 Bed design are similar and an awesome creation. I applaud their innovation.
They have created a bean bag which literally converts into a mattress as well – This two-in-one approach means greater use from the one design.
The greatest benefit of giant bean bag beds is that they are much lighter than traditional mattresses.
This comes down to saving your back when moving your new bean bag in. And when it comes to rearranging furniture in your home.
No heavy lifting and broken backs as a result.
You might worry that you are giving up the support a mattress provides, however this next section will shed some light on that.
The Right Bean Bag Filling for Extra Support
The common consensus is that the only option for filling your bean bag is with polystyrene filling.
However, our customers have filled their bean bags with everything from recycled fabric, to old clothes and even saw dust!
The options really are limitless.
When it comes to what is ideal for your back, we recommend a mixture of crumb foam and bean filling for the best support.
Please note:
• Too much crumb foam and you will feel like you are resting on the floor
That is why we recommend at least half filling your bean bag with the standard little white balls then matching the same volume with crumb foam.
The density of the crumb foam mixed with the density of the standard foam makes a perfect blend of softness and firmness for sleeping on.
Plus as a bonus, the crumb foam allows the little foam balls a little more room to “breathe”.
Being surrounded by the crumb foam means the little balls will last a lot longer than simply being the sole filling.
And this means you won’t need to top anything up for a long time.
If you are looking for alternatives you might consider bean bag sofa’s.
Bean Bag Couches
Bean bag couches are meant for both sitting and being able to lie down on.
The two-seater options below will certainly fit the bill when it comes to resting upright or horizontally.
These sofa’s can also be used as part of a much larger set. But opting for these pieces individually is perfectly fine.
You can stretch out on these sofa style designs and they may not make the best night’s sleep. However for a little nap or resting a few hours they are sublime.
The Unwind recliner shown below is a very popular choice for a bed / chair combination in one.
Admittedly it isn’t a bed by any stretch of the imagination, but you can fold the lower section up and use it as a chair.

These options might also work since their dimensions work well for use as a bed.
I don’t know too much about these designs personally, however the reviews look good on amazon, so all in all, very promising.
Conclusion
A Bean Bag bed is a great alternative to a traditional bed, especially if you are keeping it as a ‘guest’ bed, in a games or rumpus room.
Once you get them filled they really are like resting on clouds. There are only few things in life that can match this level of comfort.
You may be concerned with the material a bean bag is made from, however as long as you have a fabric covering (like a sheet) than the material the bean bag is made of won’t matter as much.
If you are concerned about stains, washing the bean bag or just keeping it looking like new, we haven’t found a better material than what we handcraft our bean bags from.
In saying that, I certainly haven’t used every bean bag on the planet. (Although I have tested a lot over the years) So I can’t say for sure ours are the best!
On a serious note though, trying out a bean bag first or buying from a source than allows free returns is recommended.
This way you can have a real-world idea for what it is like to rest on.
It is worth noting, when testing any bean bag out, the greatest benefit is you control the filling.
Therefore you can control the level of support you feel from the bean bag itself.
More filling doesn’t always mean greater support.
For instance, filling a bean bag bed completely with crumb foam might be too soft. This is due to the very low density of crumb foam.
