Bean Bag Couch For 2 People or More | View Range & Design Your Own

Can bean bag couches work better than traditional furniture?

Since the modern day bean bag was invented in the 1960’s it changed the way we saw furniture.

Now combining bean bags with traditional couch design we might have the best combination since sliced bread.

And with all the options to customise your own bean bag, you don’t have to spend a small fortune to get exactly what you want.

Bean Bags for 2 Adults

Bean Bags are well suited when there is just one person.

You can shift your body weight into the bean bag and get yourself nice and comfortable just the way you like it.

When there are 2 people sitting on the same bean bag though; if one person shifts it can change this comfy seating position.

This is due to traditional bean bags not having much structure to them. (Such as balloon shaped bean bags)

The great news is that bean bag couches have solved this problem.

By ensuring the same angles are used to stitch the side of the bean bag and the (front and back)

The couch structure is symmetrical from all positions.

This creates a defined structure for the beans to rest within the bean bag and it won’t feel lob-sided when you sit down.

Ensuring that the overall structure is exactly like a traditional sofa with a solid foam backing.

The one trick you need to know is that bean bag lounges need to be completely filled with beans to have this same effect as solid couches.

I don’t recommend you half fill them like you might in a traditional single chair bean bag.

Outdoor Bean Bag Couches

2-person outdoor bean bags are popular, for good reason.

Well suited to harsh climates, water, rain, UV exposure and a lot softer than traditional pool deck chairs that many of us use.

Since marine grade vinyl has exploded in uses over the years we now have a great material to fabricate these pieces.

And with modular bean bags available today you can mix and match sofa pieces to create your own lounge set including an ottoman or side table as well.

Since they are UV resistant and made to resist mould and mildew you can permanently keep them outdoors if you like.

Like your own little “living room” outdoors.

Currently we craft a circular and square shaped ottoman which works as an extension to a couch.

It can also act as a stand alone table piece.

Oversized Bean Bag for Two

Like jumping on a cloud and having it wrap around you, a traditional bean bag can replicate this feeling as well.

The bigger the bean bag the greater this “cloud sensation” can feel like.

When visiting a furniture store and trying out lounges on display, you soon notice which one is your favourite.

The general consensus is; the larger ones with greater support around your legs and lower back tend to win out as the most comfortable.

That is because arm chairs and large sofas have extended dimensions.

Traditional chairs (say around a dining table for instance) only give you about 50cm x 50cm or so of seating space in which to rest on. Where traditional oversized sofas provide around 90cm x 90cm of seating area to rest on.

So, when looking to replicate this couch feeling opt for a bean bag with the largest seating (surface) area as possible.

If the depth of a bean bag is in the range of 80-100cm you will feel a lot more relaxed.

Whether that is in a bean bag sofa or a traditional couch you find on the showroom of a lounge shop.

The width isn’t as important. As long as you don’t feel like someone is taking over your personal space of course.

How do Bean Bag Couches Stand Upright?

Straining in anyway when trying to relax, especially in a bean bag is awful.

And more importantly it isn’t sustainable for even a short period of time.

A sofa you have in your home would be made of either a wooden or steel frame. It is then covered in a dense foam, which is coated with a fabric (whether that be a weave wool blend or leather for instance).

Since bean bags don’t have this solid frame, it is important they are stitched together in a way to still give you this support.

That is done by double stitching the internal ‘corners’ where the seating position meets the back rest of the bean bag itself.

And a happy coincidence is that when we humans sit down or lie down to rest we are applying our centre of gravity over the ‘seating’ position and this keeps bean bag couches grounded.

Therefore, no matter how much pressure we apply with our backs it won’t be enough to flip the bean bag over or strain your neck at all.

The tapered top of the soft furnishing is also important to prevent the beans from ballooning at the very top of the bean bag.

Keeping the filling lower where you need the most amount of support across your body.

Rectangular Bean Bag for Two

If you are looking for another bean bag that is perhaps a little different to a sofa or couch, then rectangular bean bags are the next most popular choice.

They work well as you can stack them on top of each other if you get more than one; so very simple to keep out of the way.

The shape of them can also be manipulated a lot easier which means you can fold them in half for instance and use the top “folded half” as a back rest.

Benefits of Bean Bag Couches

I am sure you have had the experience of moving before.

Box everything up, throw it in a truck only to unpack and move everything again into your new home.

There is nothing worse than hoping your couch will fit through the door way, through a hallway and up stairs.

This problem isn’t best solved by buying a new sofa either.

If you decide to throw the old couch away, a new sofa will still set you back over $2,000+ in most instances.

Moving a bean bag couch is a breath of fresh air in these circumstances.

Simply because it can be done with one person, no back strain, no stress or worry. Simply plonk yourself down.

Also, having a bean bag made of commercial grade fabric means that spills, food and drink can easily be cleaned up without any fuss or worry about stains.

How to Arrange Bean Bag Couches

As mentioned, the ease at which you can move bean bag couches around means the hardest part is done.

Next is deciding how to position them in a room.

Deciding how your furniture should fit within a room is a personal choice however I dug up some tricks to position furniture here.

Now, if your room or outdoor space isn’t straight forward like many traditional rooms, you may need a few more ideas.

And we have also found ways to arrange your bean bag couch based on many different room types.

Conclusion

Truly, we are amazed that bean bag couches aren’t any more popular than they are.

They are:

• Super comfortable
• Provide great back support
• Come in a huge range or colours compared to traditional sofas
• Simple to move and re-arrange in any room
• Can be taken outdoors and left in the rain
• Are easy to clean
